I'm so sorry to read of your loss and that British Gas are still behaving in this way over bereavements.
My Mum as executor for my Nan in January 2021 recieved a reminder for a bill that had been paid, due to the dates she assumed it had crossed with the payment (as happened on another account), no suddenly she then has a solicitor's letter from BG.
Incompetent solicitors at that, they struggled to find the case after being given full details multiple times, and when she sent them proof of payment which was forwarded on, BG never even had the decency to apologise.
Awful company who unfortunately I now have to deal with after moving into a rental supplied by them.0 -

This must be very hard for the OP: my condolences.Personally, I would avoid the script-monkeys in CS and go for the nuclear option. Pass the problem on to one the newspaper problem-solving teams. It is one of those ‘Victor Meldrew’ stories that they will not be able to resist.1
