Bringing a barometer back to life

Or more specifically, the thermometer element after it was stored horizontally for some months:




I've tried the standard "sharp shake down" method as you would with a oral thermometer but no joy. Recommendations?

    Seal in plastic bag or wrap in towel and put in freezer for short period ,?

    Failing that hairdryer pointed a nodule at bottom see it that reunites liquid.

    Careful! Flashback to a curious 6-year old who found an oral thermometer, and tried it in the steam coming from a kettle. 'Bang', and mercury everywhere.
    Fortunately, the mercury has had no detrimental efefct.
