Homeserve Plumbing and Drainage Plus cover

I had taken out the Homeserve Plumbing and Heating cover for 75p a month last September which is due for renewal very soon. I had my renewal price through yesterday for £10 a month which the live chat agent then reduced to £8.80.
If I cancel the policy I can then take a new policy out for £4 a month as a returning customer offer through their website but there is a 30 day claims exclusion period.
British Gas offer the same policy for £3.78 a month but with a £60 excess (£30 with homeserve) no exclusion period through. I am not a fan of British Gas having seen and heard other peoples past experiences with their homecare.
I will call Homeserve tomorrow and see if they can either match the £4 website returning customer offer or even BG offer but does anyone know if they will do this or any tips for negotiating with them as live chat wont budge on the £8.80 a month offer.
Alternatively is there any other decent insurance policies that offer the same cover? Please note I have home emergency through QuoteMeHappy (Aviva - Homeserve) so I will only claim on this policy for the water main between my meter and internal stopcock. Being so cheap per year I dont just want to self insure as this could be a big expense!
Thank you

How big an expense do you think it would be? And couldn't you afford it? The insurance is cheap because it's a very small risk (and the cost probably isn't that big). Always the money-saving approach to self-insure unless it's something you really couldn't afford.SaverRate said:
