Any recommendations for appliance repair

Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone has recommendations/thoughts for these companies online that offer appliance repair. such as Go Assist.

Our AEG cooker hood/extractor fan is on the blink, 90% of the time when you turn it on it doesn't do anything.  I've done a google search and Go Assist and various other companies, including AEG have a repair service(albeit provided by domestic and general). What are people's thoughts with these companies?

Secondly, they tend to offer a fixed price repair or a repair with monthly fee - if people tend to go for this, which is better? I feel as though the monthly payment is a bit of scam to lure you into paying an overpriced amount for a lengthy period at a time, though i note from AEG if you take the fixed price repair and they can't repair it you don't get a refund back so could be a risk.

Thanks

I feel you would be better off asking someone for a recommendation for a fairly local domestic appliance repairer.  Ask neighbours, friends, work colleagues.  People are usually happy to help.  Can you get access to a local group on Facebook?  My local village group often has people asking for recommendations when they need work doing.

In addition, start now to make a list on your computer headed "Tradespeople" of busnesses that have been recommended to you that you may need to call on in the future.  I have a list started a few years ago.  It includes decorators, joiners, gardeners, taxis, carpet fitters/cleaners, pest controllers, handymen, domestic appliance repairers, plumbers, electricians, TV repairs, florists etc.

If it works some of the time, then the motor is probably OK, so it's either a loose connection, or the switch. Does the light work when the motor doesn't? Any white goods engineer, or sparky, should be able to resolve it, even a handyman with basic electrical knowledge. They're very simple devices. I assume you've changed the filter?
You can't buy an insurance based policy, as it's a pre-existing fault, and the annual cost is probably more than the cost of replacement.

No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
