    Wonder if the damage was picked up by next customer if they were wanting to use the rack & it did not work?

    I think they mean they personally don't record your card details. They will be passed to the payment provider. They probably hold  encrypted  details.

    So, they can't use the information for anything other than that order.  They couldn't buy something with your details 

    They must have a way of accessing the details as how else could they return the deposit.
