Fridges, if they are old can be quite inefficient and as they run 24/7 that can add up to quite a bitBarnsley, South Yorkshire

You really need a smart meter (good luck there)
I can forsee many going to solar panels/batteries with 12v lighting and caravan/camping appliances using an inverter to run "middle" appliances like smart TV's and Computers (with smoothed output of course) or even 240v generators running on red diesel maybe
Just had some measurements from a Samsung 48 inch LED TV and my 55 inch QLED that I gave to my daughter ( TV is 2 years old ). Based on 6 hours per day usage at October's predicted pricing the QLED is £100 more expensive.

A brief update:
The last few days we've been <10kWh/ day. I switched as much off as possible at the wall. The microwave, kettle, toaster and oven only get their mains switched on if being used. I had to buy a big digital battery-run clock for the kitchen to replace the ones on the oven and microwave. We seem to use 1-2kWh overnight and 2kWh when we are all out of the house for the working day. I'm minded to switch off the router while we're out because it's not needed in that time.
I've ordered an air fryer to reduce oven cooking after a thread here and on another forum. We'll get a Shiela Maid in the kitchen for the winter and I'm aiming to reduce the number of clothes washes per week (even if the is means a couple more school jerseys to buy). The wet system underfloor heating goes into the kitchen in a few weeks and that should reduce electrical heating in that cold area,
We're getting quotes for PV panels and can do those with a Home Energy Scotland loan and grant.
The fridge freezer needs consideration. I figure we could manage with a smaller one and a better freezer layout. The current one is narrow and deep with a lack of drawers so getting things out is a cross between calving a cow and a game of jenga.
Light bulbs may get pared back too. Quite a few rooms have more than one and I'm not convinced all are required. I'm doing that gradually so the effect is not to obvious to avoid complaining kids. They layout of the house does not help on that front. To use the downstairs loo from the sitting room one goes through the hall, kitchen, back porch, then scullery to the loo, That involves a minimum of 6 light bulbs in the dark plus the fan in the loo.
All this leads me to think, there was inadvertent higher consumption, with a collection of small things. The only other possibility is the night meter was incorrect and it has not been tested because the meter checking person switched it off.
I have become more energy-use conscious - like a dieting person with calories! I think I'm making some headway into training the kids.
The forum has been great for all this and more. Thank you all.4 -
