Dishwasher - repair or replace?

I've repaired my hotpoint dishwasher 3 times for 3 different things. I bought the parts from espares...but having looked at the cost of a new heating element, at average cost, I think I would be inclined to buy a new one....ask your engineer what one he would recommend
Before you do, just check the cost of the part for your specific model and consider doing it yourself. You may be suprised0 -
For those mentioning rusty baskets I have seen Sugru used to replace the plastic covering over the metal like this Dishwasher rack repair | Sugru3

I know I'm adding to an old thread."New" isn't always better. My trusty 13-yr-old Beko dishwasher broke down last month, and repairs were going to cost almost as much as a new one.The new one (another Beko, as I've always found Beko appliances reliable) is now installed - but doesn't work properly. The supposed 30-minute cycle takes 4.5 hours. The dishwasher thinks the water pressure is too low - although the old one worked perfectly well for all those years. The water pressure is indeed low, and always has been, but is within the range specified by Beko.Repairman says he's finding this problem more and more in recent times. The technology has become so sensitive that it's less accommodating. He's investigating possible solutions - but if nothing can be done, I'm stuck with it.I wish now that I'd had the old machine repaired!

My 6 year old Bosch dishwasher has also just packed up with a E19 error. Which is either a dispenser issue or inlet valve depending on which Bosch web site you go on! It had also developed a E16 error 6 months after buying which was repaired under warranty. But makes you realise that even “good” makes are just as likely to go wrong as any other make! So now do I repair or replace?!0

Regarding water pressure issues with newer appliances, I bought a new Bosch dishwasher after my 15 year old Lamona (Beko) gave up the ghost.
It certainly washes well BUT we have high water pressure which causes a knocking noise when the water stops filling due to the (aggressive) Aquastop valve which is now standard on lots of dishwashers & washing machines.
I have had a water pressure reducer fitted which has helped a bit but I will ensure any replacement washing machine/dishwasher does not have this feature.0 -
Just an update on my Beko dishwasher. it hasn't been replaced.
Earlier this year finally contacted another engineer who used to work for the store where I had bought it. We had a phone chat and he said it wasn't economically viable to repair -a cheapish model & expensive part- so he suggested running it without salt & with the red salt light on.
It's been running fine for the last 6 months, even in a hard water area the pots still come out shining sans salt!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

What detergent are you using? If its an all in one then you are using salt just its via the detergent which works ok for the glasses etc but not so good for the limescale on the internal workings. May be worth running a descaler through once a year to make up for it given you say you are in hard water2 -
^^ yes, that's a good idea. Either a descaler or maybe a goodly amount of white vinegar on an empty wash. I will do it when the solar panels are working- which is not today! A grey, grey day.
I have some Fairy pods but otherwise use the basic Aldi tabsBeing polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
