Cable has been cut

I think it is an outside cable to the water meter, cut inadvertently. Can anyone tell me if I should contact the water board, or an electrician?

Can anyone tell me if I should contact the water board, or an electrician?External water meters generally don't have cables... can you post a picture?Meanwhile, (carefully) make sure nobody can touch the cut ends.1

You'd know if it was an electricity cable...there is no power supply to a water meter.
Have you tested your landline since? More likely to be that.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks for replies.
Definitely not the landline.I think it is a connection to the water meter which is under the sink. It goes into a cable which goes round to the front of the house to a little round box. I presume this is must be to do with reading the meter, though I thought that happened remotely actually.
i will post a picture in the morning.0 -
How deep is it, were you informed it was there, and did it have a warning tape over it?0

Sounds like my parents set up - meter under sink, cabled to a sensor on the outside wall so that meter reader can read on a hand held when walking down the footpath.Newly_retired said:Thanks for replies.

If so property of the water board - ring them, not electrician

i will post a picture in the morning. If the water meter is internal (not external) then the cable could be part of an aerial-type arrangement (remote transponder) to allow the meter to be read remotely - where it is may be too far from the street for their hand-held devices to work properly otherwise. If the cable is definitely connected to the water meter (and isn't a green and yellow 'earth' cable) then you need to get in touch with the water company for advice.

If you are sure it is from water meter easy to repair.
Get some tube heatshrink and insulated crimps, put some foil round cable where heatshrink will end to protect cable from heat source used to shrink down.
There may be charge if company comes out to replacePlay with the expectation of winning not the fear of failure. S.Clarke1 -
Thanks I will look into this.1
