Flight delays and travel insurance

Options
I'm booking a holiday with single trip insurance. What happens if something out of my control means that flights are delayed and I am away beyond the travel insurance dates?

The insurance will cover you for the booked dates of travel. It doesn't matter if your flight is delayed 24 hours and the insurance has then expired.
Single trip cover is terrible value anyway. You need cover from the date of booking, not the date of departure.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Single trip insurance , as opposed to annual,  normally starts from the date you take it out regardless of the date of departure.

As the OP states he is booking a holiday with single trip insurance that would imply he is booking insurance at teh time of booking the holiday.

if you flight home is delayed, through no fault of your own,  the insurance will usually automatically be expended to cover you until you get home.  You should notify them as soon as possible.

Disagree. You need to compare quotes for your particular circumstances but I generally find that single-trip insurance is a more economical way of getting the cover I need than taking out an annual policy.

As Sheramber has already pointed out, single-trip insurance is usually automatically extended if the insured person cannot get home (eg because of flight delays or cancellations), and will include cancellation cover from the moment the holiday is booked and insurance is taken out.
