Your meter is updated electronically with any details the supplier needs to do when you top up the meter at a pay point and backdated to Oct 1 st even if its 4 months later .Every old prepay meter which needed a personal visit to change the rates changed many years agoheinov said:That can’t be. If you buy at a price you can’t later be told you used gas below the current rate. It could’ve gone down as well, what then?
The only risk is company reps coming around and changing the tariffs on the metre. But they can’t do that with mine, it’s inside the house, not a chance.
I can almost guarantee that every supplier will not allow people to stock up at the old April price cap rates to beat the huge rate rise coming on October 1 .
Those suppliers who fell for that trick will be ready this time as the losses are much greater .0 -
The energy company can send out an update at any time with smart meters and I suspect with many modern non smart prepayment meters so the SC and unit rates can change on the day of any increase. I've not got prepayment but my SC changed on my smart meter by mid October.Someone please tell me what money is0

I have been responsible for our electricity and gas since we bought our house and have just become debt free (made final payment today). I found having a prepayment meter helpful in rationing how much we use from day to day, week to week etc allowing me to not put washing on or limit childrens’ computer use to stretch meter credit til payday or when I could get to the shop to top up. This has been ongoing since before smart meters were a thing and the smart display things don’t seem to work particularly well (according to many people on here who have them). Also, about the grant - prepayment meter customers WILL get the £400 in vouchers or via text. Don’t bother piling on, try thinking outside the box sometimes. Not everyone can get the lowest fix, does that mean they’re not worthy of exploring other ways to sort out their finances?

Someone was suggesting it - the gov seem to just announce things and then let people worry for months over the details. We'll see what happens, but there is no perfect solution that will suit everyone.Ultrasonic said:
