Spanish speeding ticket
Options
Received a Spanish speeding ticket 10/8/22, dated 29/7/22 with alledged offence occuring 22/6/22.
Anyone know the rules on Spanish speeding tickets? They have not given me the chance to pay a 50% reduction as it was sent way after the 20 day period of being able to do this as seen from dates above.

Have you actually got a Spanish ticket, or have you got a demand from a shonky UK debt-vulture.
Who actually sent you this and who does it say to pay to?0 -
Looks pretty legit0

Did this come via a rental firm/collector or issued to your own vehicle?
I don't see any payment info?

If it is genuine, then you are still in the 20-day "discount" period from the issue date of 29-7 and there is a phone payment line, or app-based payment but that's without seeing who they say to pay to.

The ticket probably first went to the hire co who then gave the hirer's name/address details. The 50% reduction within 20 days probably applied only to the first notice.
@Markfx unless you're planning to return to Spain anytime soon you can probably safely ignore this; the Spanish authority is highly unlikely to pursue this through a UK court. However if you are returning to Spain then this "fine" will still be hanging, which may or may not be flagged if you're hiring another car.Jenni x0 -
Yes, Spanish tickets can be ignored but may cause you problems if you return and try to rent another vehicle but what is most likely is that they will offload the ticket to a UK-based debt collector for a pittance. Demands from those jokers should be completely ignored.0

I did hear of a case of a UK citizen who apparently kept their US hire car for longer than they paid for then just abandoned it in the car hire drop without paying the excess before leaving the country. Presumably they'd also cancelled their CC so the money could not be reclaimed that way. Next time they tried to enter the US they were apparently refused entry!“Like a bunch of cod fishermen after all the cod’s been overfished, they don’t catch a lot of cod, but they keep on fishing in the same waters. That’s what’s happened to all these value investors. Maybe they should move to where the fish are.” Charlie Munger, vice chairman, Berkshire Hathaway0

Cancelling the CC has no effect. If the card gives a preauthorisation, then the card company will supply the funds regardless0

Well if it is in relation to a hire car. Op will have the admin charge from the hire co deducted from their CC. I would not be surprised to also see the fine taken as well.Life in the slow lane0
