I've just had an email from Sainsbury's Energy that my fixed tariff is due to end on the 24th September and gives me the choice of SVR or 1 Year Smooth Renew v19.
and want's me to renew one or the other.

However if I click renew will I be charged whatever I select from now or will it wait until the 24th September before I am charged at the new rate?

Probably from now, but ask them (or check the terms).
  • yes, you'll move to the new renew tariff once you've agreed.

That tariff will most likely not be available to you in September.

Look at your annual usage  and work out how much the Renew tariff would be against the SVR.

For reference you do not have to do anything now, if you've not chosen a new fix when your term ends you will move to the capped SVR rate automatically. I would, however, ensure you take readings on that date and ensure your supplier uses those on you bill (take a picture).

Also consider that usage in summer should be low, you aren't (hopefully) using any heating, probably have cooler showers and maybe cook less hot food.

The bigger costs don't usually start until October anyway.

Unlikely that fix will survive the new price cap due on 26/8. so if you prefer to fix at those prices, grab it now.

I've just had this back from Sainsbury's Energy

    Hello,

The tariff would start on the end date of any existing contract.

you should have 14 days "cooling off period" anyway from when you agree to think more about it.
