Three bank accounts with little interest which I would like to change.

I’m in my mid 80s with a reasonable income from various pensions.

A Barclays Current account with around £17,000.00 which obviously pays no interest which I could change so it only holds a nominal bill paying amount..

A Barclays Every Day Saver with around £3,500.00 which paid a magnificent three pence this month.

A TSB deposit account with around £3,000.00 that pays no interest.

Both banks are closing down branches as fast as they can and stuff the customers.

I have never really bothered with chasing interest rates so that’s my fault however I now think it’s time to put that right. I am risk averse but would welcome any suggestions.

By the way, is there any way one can obtain notice by email of replies or comments?

If you want to leave that money with TSB they have Savings Pots which now pay 1.25%

But obviously you can get better than that elsewhere

Some of the best rates are app only, android or ios.
Do you want a physical branch or are you happy with online, or app only?

Click the Notifications bell symbol at the top of the screen (if you're on a PC - I think it's at the bottom on a mobile) and then the three horizontal line thing, and you'll see a range of notification options pop up

Although a few savings account are only operable via an app on a smartphone, the large majority are OK to operate via the internet on your computer and there are still ones with decent rates that you can operate by phone or post.

OP - If you look at this comparison site   Compare The Best UK Savings Accounts | moneyfacts.co.uk  it indicates how each  account can be operated . For example

Opening Account ( by person or by phone)
Not Available OnlineAvailable At BranchNot Available By MailAvailable By TelephoneNot Available By Mobile
Managing Account ( by internet, person, phone , smartphone )
Available OnlineAvailable At BranchNot Available By MailAvailable By TelephoneAvailable By Mobile

All savings institutions mentioned are safe ( even if you have never heard of them ) and covered by the £85K FSCS compensation scheme

Tip If you untick the box marked ' show quick links first ' you get more choice.

Which is why I included 'online" in my reply too. Although plenty of octogenarians are dab hands with a smart phone.

My dad is 77 and loves his IPad and face recognition.
Don't get me wrong I had to set it all up for him.
I even talked him through opening an online saving account with Al Ryan.
But it’s hard for older people to get to grips with new technology.
He does use a few 4 letter word at times.

It seems like all the good interest rates are app based but not all.
