if one was to open a new Santander current account would it automatically be linked to the existing login details or could one setup a whole new set of login details inc. number for OTP?
experiences?
thank you.
I've changed the title of the thread and posed another question further down.

Santander normally try to merge accounts under a single User ID in my experience.I seem to be using the same ID I had when my Alliance & Leicester account was moved over, despite the fact I've rejoined them as a 'new customer' at least twice since then.1

As above, I was an A&L customer which was closed before I became a Santander customer yet was able to log in straight away with A&L details so it would suggest they merge accounts if you're already a customer.

I've changed the title of this thread but have left the original question in the OP.
now for the next one. my OH has a real and genuine issue using the the phone to speak with organisations so i had hoped to avoid her having to do it.
does anyone have experience of the OTP help line people when she needs to change her Mobile number as the old one is long gone?
i remember calling Santander a while back and they asked about previous transactions but this account has not been used for months. i remember they used transactions more than using usual confirmation questions like DOB, mother MN etc.
thank you.0 -

As it happens, I opened a new Santander credit card account last week. They automatically linked it to the customer number that they allocated to me when I had another account with them (that account having been closed in 2019). This caused me a little difficulty because I no longer had the relevant login details, but I was able to reset things.

" Alliance & Leicester account "Sorry, a bit random and off topic, I couldn't remember the name A & L. A switch to Santander completes tomorrow and I received a letter from them with a Bootle return address, They must still have some presence there?0

pfpf said:i assume this was because you still had the same OTP mobile number they could send a code to?Yes, I think that was how it was done. Sorry, my memory for minor points is hopeless. I've already forgotten the details. But I do know that I've had the same mobile number for about 20 years.

Call/Message them for a solution.
If they fail to resolve, try open a new account in the target name with your current mobile number and see if they merge the accounts - risk is they port the old number over. If so ask if they can add an alternate mob number?
Otherwise branch visit with proof of id preferably with appointment so your not waiting... and waiting...and...
