bathroom 'accent' downlights

Hi All,

I'm trying to find downlights to put in bathroom as accent lights. I'm looking for recessed ones, preferably with black inside to reduce glare. I've seen some that are 59mm diameter, so nice and small, but they are crazy priced at over £100 each. The next nearest I've found are 75mm diameter and around £20 each. 

Can anyone suggest a supplier (or even better a light) that is more like 60mm but without the huge price tag?

Maybe they don't exist, but I thought I would ask as someone here might have found a good deal or can suggest a reliable supplier that might be able to advise.

do you need an IP rating or fire rated?

I assume I need IP65 rated as it's for the bathroom - one will be over the bath and I want them all to match so the rest will have to be the same. 

Unfortunately, there isn't anything that works from that company. The closest has a diameter of 88mm so more than the 75mm I've already found. Worth a try though so thank you!

I haven't checked through them all but they definitely do downlights less than 88mm, I have Spryte's which are 78mm.

Ah yes! Those aren't IP65 so didn't come up in my search.

There don't seem to be any that are IP65, recessed, and small diameter unfortunately.

IP44, certainly when I did them only Zone 0 (inside the bath or shower) required IP65.
Depending upon the height of your ceiling your one over the bath may be in Zone 1.

That's interesting, and might open up a few more options. Although what I've read said that "Zone 1 is the area above the bath to a height of 2.25m from the floor. If the fitting is 240V a 3oma residual current device (RCD) must also be used to protect the circuit in this zone. An IP65 rating is recommended."

I don't have high ceilings in the bathroom (or kitchen) - every other room yes, but those two not so much. The bathroom is 2.226m from floor to ceiling, and that is less when standing in the bath. 

I assumed that meant I had to go with IP65 rating... but maybe not??

2.226 < 2.25m so it sounds like you need IP65 for that 1 fixture.

Shame if it massively increased the overall cost for your whole job, would it be that obvious if it was slightly different from the others?

I can’t (yet) find any IP44’s that tick all the boxes either, so as yet going for IP65 isn’t costing anymore. 

I might have found another option but the specs say to install into new ceilings, which sounds like they won’t work for me anyway.
