Hi all, looking for some advice. We're moving into a new within the next 2 months and wondered what's the situation with sorting out bills for new build properties? Do you think we could find an agreement pre move to ensure we fix on our gas and electricity before we move in? Cautious we'll be hitting the higher rates come October...

Your new build will have a deemed supplier which was set up by your developer. When you reach the point of house handover, you should agree meter readings with the developer. You should then contact the deemed supplier with your details and readings so that it can set up an account. You are then free to (try to) arrange a switch. If you intend to attempt this, do not let the deemed supplier put you on a fixed deal.

If you only move in October you will not be able to go onto a fix now. Do you even know who the deemed supplier will be as described by @[Deleted User]?

It was in my handover pack for the new build property I bought 4 years ago. The fact that all the meters were mis-registered is another of the joys of new builds.
