breakdown cover
Hello everyone
im with the rac at the moment have rescue recovery and home start but i’ve just purchased a new car insurance policy that has the rescue and recovery on it so when my rac comes up for renewal in a month i won’t be needing the rescue and recovery bit of the policy only the home start bit. i’ve checked online and it seems the only way i can get home start is by purchasing the full policy but as i’ve already got the rescue and recovery on my motor insurance i’m just wondering if anyone knows of a breakdown company that is possible just to purchase home start ?

Won’t the insurance company offer a home start up grade? Are you likely to need it? Just have the phone number of a local mechanic or rescue company and self insure.0

Not sure I can help much here - homestart is almost always an additional extra to standard rescue/recovery policies. But a couple of things spring to mind. Firstly, would your car insurance be cheaper if you opted not to include breakdown cover - then just carry on with the RAC or whoever?Secondly, do you actually need homestart? Depends an awful lot on where you live and how mechanically minded you are. But for instance, if you're worried about a flat battery then a set of jump leads and a friendly neighbour are cheap. Or one of those power-pack things if you don't have a neighbour to give you a jump-start. For anything else, do you have a tame mechanic locally who you'd be able to call on if you needed to?These may not be feasible options, depending on location and circumstances - but just trying to live the MSE ethos0

thanks scrooge and huggy i’m not to mechanical minded , thought i was once but wasn’t. the rescue and recovery are included so they are there on the policy i might give them a ring see if they can add home start , that’s a possible option now i think about it. ideally i was hoping to find just a home start policy i’ve got a month to look .0
