Hi @chris_n. We've got lightbulb down as about half a penny per hour.

    Thanks for the suggestion, @beautifulmist.

My colleague has added a new table here to show ballpark figures for the running costs of various appliances. Costs are based on the upcoming average price cap rate
The table is incorrect at the moment, it says a 10W lightbulb costs 52p per hour!
That's the draft table they're preparing for post-price cap Jan '23...

Sorry didn't realise you had changed units, not really usual to do that within a table.

Let frozen food thaw for 45 minutes, reduces cooking time by a third. The 1W LED bulbs don't even register on the power meter even the 3W one in the bathroom does not turn off the red led on the actual meter (if nothing else is turned on). 1kW a day is as low as I have got it whilst still using the TV and computer with fridge/freezer running on min in cold room and grill one meal a day and three cups of hot coffee (use an element directly in cup of hot water) but usually 1.2kw except in the heat when it has been as high as 2kw due to the fridge and freezer. I am fixed until March but could find a way to charge my laptop from solar panel and use that instead of TV in night and get rid of the fridge but not freezer as bulk buy discounted on discount fish and chicken from supermarket so that would work out more expensive.

Smart Plugs are a must seriously, no word of a lie. My sons room is all on a smart plugs, Our main bedroom all on smart plugs,
Spare Room no plugs at all on. Microwave off, Washing Machine unplugged and fused switch off, tumble drier unplugged and fused switch off. Toaster off. Electrical Shower off (left on all the time and wasting electricity).Everything else is off.
TV on Standby, Fridge Freezer on Internet Hub on. Alexa on for Radio, Actually got my electricity bill down to £50 for the month(but not including Gas, Standing Charge or VAT) however my VAT was more than my gas each month for the last 6 months. So from 7.30am till 6pm im using about 1KW a day then from 6pm till the next day im using about 8KW.
As a kid growing up and having no electricity in the house I always said never again and here I am 50 years later, I could well be in that same predicament as I was as a kid.     UNBELIEVABLE

Quite simply - if it produces a lot of heat for a long time, it's going to cost.

A kettle burns a lot but for a short time.

Quick experiment - I'm going to boil a litre of water in my kettle....hold on....

    Time taken - 2 minutes 07 seconds
    Smartmeter cost £0.02.

"Quick experiment - I'm going to boil a litre of water in my kettle....hold on...." my post said.

The meter was reading £0.57 before I put the kettle on £0.59 after (the fridge, freezer and laptop were on as well). Yes I know it's rounded to the nearest £0.01.
