Landlords accused me of changing locks

That's great news, however suicidal thoughts are never something to ignore. Please read back over the helplines and information given and take steps to try to help reduce these thoughts going forward and deal with anxiety. Good luck 🙏DanS1 said:Turns out it was an error on their part and is all sorted out now. 😂Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....4 -
Dear OP. Glad to hear that the problem got sorted. However don’t ignore the fact that you “felt suicidal” as this was quite a strong feeling from the prospect of paying £200. I would recommend you reflect on this and see if you need help so that if another stressful situation comes up you can handle it better? Check what made you overly anxious, if say you were indeed forced to pay £200 because you want to maintain a good relationship as they are still current landlord in the new place, why did you feel you will need to end things? Do you have an emergency fund as this might give you more assurance that life can be managed? Other mental stresses which need counselling, addressing so you feel more positive overall?DanS1 said:
only thing is, the new flat I've moved into is with the same landlords.alibean121 said:Even if the lock is different to the others in the block, I’ll take the OP at their word that they didn’t touch the lock. It could have been a previous tenant, it’s not really your job to do any detective work on this. It’s for them to prove that it was you specifically.
Have you received your deposit back? If not, put in a claim with the relevant deposit protection scheme. If you have had it, honestly ignore them. I would send one email stating clearly that I didn’t touch the lock and returned all the keys I was given at the start of the tenancy then ignore.

And for future reference, if you do want advice from here, maybe try answering the questions that have been asked? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Not an unreasonable suggestion though, is it? Unfortunately, it's true that when we're in a state of panic, we tend to forget that not everyone knows all the details of our situation. There are lots of very knowledgeable posters here who can help with a wide range of issues and are happy to do so, in their free time and free of charge. But in order to get the best advice, it's important to give as much detail as possible, to avoid those posters inadvertently giving misleading advice.DanS1 said:

Remember, other people who are seeking advice on similar issues will read the posts on this thread and it's human nature to stop reading when you get to the answer you want. Questions to clarify the situation are to be expected and aren't just people being nosy (usually!) so don't see this suggestion as anything other than that, a suggestion for your (and other readers') benefit.2 -
True. Maybe I should have been more specific.Jude57 said:

To be honest I think I've got relocation depression. I haven't even moved far, but feels like I've moved To a different part of the country.I feel like every decision I make is the wrong one (like I've just bought a new washer dryer, which today has taken six and a half hours to do a full load. I live alone so will probably only use it once a week, but am now dreading the energy bills). The rent is £200 more. I was actually quite looking forward to moving as before I was in a tiny little studio, now it's a 1 bedroom flat in, but now just wishing I never made the move which has cost hundreds. I just want to go to the doctor, get a depression diagnosis, and apply to join the council waiting list so I don't have to private rent anymore.0 -
A depression diagnosis isn’t going to get you a council flat. You really do need to let that idea go because as per my previous post it’s just not realistic. With regards to the laundry, the longer washes are actually more energy and water efficient, as a rule, although 6 hours seems excessive. Mine are more like 3 hours. Do you have the manual? How long have you been in your new place for? What about friends and family, where are they? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

A washer dryer isn't designed to dry a full wash load. Typically, the dryer capacity is half the washing capacity. You have to do it in 2 batches, if a full load. This is why they're never a good choice compared to separate units.
A modern machine runs on low energy, and is extended. So a long runtime doesn't necessarily mean higher bills. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I've been in my new place for a week. I'm actually half a mile closer to my mum and other family now. I don't actually have any friends.elsien said:A depression diagnosis isn’t going to get you a council flat. I couldn't have separate units as my flat isn't big enough, and needed a dryer as I only had a washing machine in my last place, and was a nightmare in the winter trying to get clothes to dry and always caused a rusty smell with mould on the walls.macman said:A washer dryer isn't designed to dry a full wash load.
