Iceland is giving away free £30 food vouchers to pensioners struggling with the cost of living - but

  • I am at a bit of a loss here as to why you have to live in a certain area of the country to qualify? Does that mean that as a disabled pensioner living in Bristol I am more likely to not need assistance? I thought it stated NATIONWIDE ???
  • Iceland used to be known for its cheap (and largely processed) food. I am told that it is no longer cheap and does not compare with Big 4 prices. Interestingly both Tesco and Sainsburys use Aldi as their price match comparator.
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.

Apparently the vouchers can be redeemed nationwide.

It's an interesting list when one compares the size of the different areas - the London borough of Lambeth (where they trialled the scheme) compared with the whole of North Wales.

It's not very helpful that they can be redeemed nationwide if you can't get one in the first place becasue you don't live in one of the qualifying areas though, it is ?

  • Well I have not had any of their vouchers/discounts for pensioners because the first time they gave a discount it was only instore and I am disabled and unable to get to the store and the last time I live in the Notts area and we are not in an area that it covers. I shop regularly online with this store and I am 84 a carer and disabled when will I get a voucher for a discount with them I wonder??? Never it seems

There’s none at all in the south.  Apart from a bit of London they seem to be in the Midlands and the North.  Maybe they think we’re wealthy down here  :#

Croydon is on the list and is south of London.

You will have noticed that this is being run with funding from the Rothesay Foundation.  They say the areas chosen were "identified as places where there are some of the highest number of pensioners living in material deprivation in the country".

The MSE article says the 269 Iceland stores are "across the UK" whereas I now see that they are in the areas identified for provision of vouchers, which makes sense.

  • Anyone recieved there's yet... Still waiting....
  • I don't understand this at all. Maybe I've missed something important; perhaps someone on here could help. Firstly, I didn't know about the first time vouchers from Iceland being offered, and secondly, having just read on here that another offer is due, I looked at the qualifying areas. I live in East Midlands, which isn't on the list, although West Midlands is included. I'm also on the state pension. The town I'm in is classed as one of the poorest and most deprived in the country, as a result of British Steel's closures in the 1980s.

I could do with a reminder to go shopping in Iceland on Tuesdays, as that, at least, doesn't seem to depend on where I live.
  • I have been waiting 3 weeks for my voucher has anyone received there's yet
