boiler spares

Options
Long shot Guys, but I have an Ideal Icos gas boiler m3080 and need a wiring harness as BG say that its obsolete and now want to sell me a new boiler. The part no is 170925 and the GC no. is 41-391-49.
A couple of sites show that no. but its not the correct part - its the full ( fan) harness. Any advice would be great as it would save me a shed load of money! Thanks

My advice is to post a photo and some links. And to explain what's wrong with the existing harness.

And, possibly, to stop wasting money on BG and call some local guy instead.

BG have history in finding parts 'unavailable' that other suppliers can still find.
You are aware that their RGI's get commission for new boiler sales referrals?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Thanks Guys.Tenanted property with BG homecare. Boiler was serviced and within couple of hours the hot water seemed to come on even when the timer/programmer was off.Pipes were red hot, tenant was worried so turned all of.Engineer came 1 week later and switched on boiler - BANG! He jumped feet.Ordered switch and PCB came yesterday and spent 2 1/2 hours trying all sorts.Spoke to Ideal, and eventually informed me that the wiring harness was faulty and was obsolete.I was pretty P****ed by now, but agreed to a quote for new boiler! Been trying all day to source new one but no luck.Boiler is old. Thanks

  • Know all about BG and new boilers so will get quotes from locals.Have spoken to BG and complained but I doubt anything will come of it.

    You've tried ebay?
First try using the part number as well, and if no returns, try without - just 'Ideal wiring harness' or similar, and search through until you hopefully find the right part.
Or even Ideal Icos - 'spares and repair' or 'breaking for parts'.

    Ideal maker's parts listing
    https://www.idealparts.com/parts-finder/search/details/?product=154299&product_make=ICOS&product_model=ICOS+M&product_type=M3080

https://www.idealparts.com/170925-gas-valvethermistor-harness-kit-icos is the part number you give ... and is no longer available (withdrawn in 2014 so 8 years ago).  Other parts are still available, it seems.

For the bit you need, a pattern part, old stock or second-user part may be possible via an independent Gas Safer service person in your locality?  They may even be able to repair the issue with your wiring harness if it's simple enough.

It has the right part number, but I suspect this is not what you are after?

  • Thanks Bendy_House, yes I had seen that and thought brilliant.Turns out they must have the wrong number. Have seen a pic of the harness with another company but they confirm its OOS.

Actually that eBay part description matches the Ideal Parts description I linked to above i.e.

    GAS VALVE/THERMISTOR HARNESS KIT ICOS

so perhaps you have / have been given the wrong part number somehow...

Check through all the parts in the first link to find the bit you need? Or post a pic as already suggested.  e.g. Ideal - ICOS ISAR FAN HARNESS 173530, a part available on eBay, might be more like what you want?

Remember it may be a 'complete harness' was installed 'as built'; but spares are sub-component parts of that full assembly?  Perhaps?

But as your service tech called Ideal and was told that the required harness / part is obsolete, it seems unlikely to me that a new one will be found except as a salvage from another removed boiler?
  • Hi Rodders53, yes I had the same problem with those numbers. Some sites show the part as the flame ithngy! but Im sure its the wiring harness.Trouble is I cant post a picture of it as the boiler facing has been put back. The engineer was pretty good and tried to get a part.I contacted Ideal direct as they show a similar part but diff.number- they confirmed that this part would not fit.Have complained to BG as I dont see why I should be stuck with the bill. We'll see.
