Advice on fence/gate between detached properties

Living in a detached, the fence between our neighbours property on the left is attached to both houses, it also is his side of his garden, approx 1 metre wide.
He mentioned he was going to change the fence to a gate, which I’m not happy about as our house is set back approx 1.5 metres from theirs so if they were to use said new gate they’d walk towards and to the side of my front downstairs window, seeing right into my house.
The question is can my new neighbour attach a gate to my detached property? Changing it from a fence with currently no access?
(They do have a gate on the other side for access, they were going to add another for bins etc)

Do you mean the fence is on his property?
Have you looked at your deeds to see who is responsible for the maintenance of the fence?

I think, they cannot attach without your consent, but this doesn't stop them from having a gate. They can add a post next to your wall and fix the hinges to the post or to their house.
As you cannot stop this, it makes little sense to object.
How about they add a 1.5m fence on the side of the passage and place the gate on the corner of their house?

Depends how much the OP is bothered by then looking at a 1.5 meter fence all the time when looking out the lounge windows, rather than being bothered by the occasional glance in of the neighbour when bringing in their bins, presumably once a week.

I'd rather have net curtains personally, but some see that as old fashioned. Mind you, everything old fashioned comes round again at some point, so you may as well be ahead of the curve.

Is the land the neighbour would then walk across through this gate your land, or their land, or shared land?
If shared land, you probably cannot do anything about it but may be able to erect your own boundary marker within your land (between your land and the shared land).
