EDF fixed

I received an email from EDF on 15th July  about an 'exclusive tariff' for 2 years of £122 a month for customers whose electricity Aug22v2 ends on 31st August.  Now I go online to sign up it's gone up to £162.  I was not informed  in the July email the offer was only available for a short period so thought I had until August to decide.  This is a disgrace, especially as this would now be 150% of the current plan.  Should I risk going for the variable?

Remember that the £122/£162 is only a projection and not entirely meaningful, what really matters is your actual usage against the unit prices. Check that to decide whether a tariff is worthwhile or not.

Unfortunately fixed tariffs are not going to be around for long for to make a decision before being pulled, especially with the cap forecasts changing at such a rapid pace.

Did it say in your email until when the price is guaranteed?

Otherwise why would it be a disgrace that when the predictions go up that offers also will go up? Depending when you went online today the tariff you looked at might be withdrawn today as we got new much higher predictions today.

I at least expect that most tariffs that were available this morning will be withdrawn by tomorrow.
  • Deals come and deals go, it's not a disgrace.

Don't be surprised if there are further changes to EDF's deals in the very near future with today's latest predictions for the January increases.

You need to do your sums on your own usage and then toss the coin.
  • What IS a disgrace is that the energy crisis hasn't been top of the news agenda pretty much every day this year. Millions are people are ill-equipped to deal with this and the very least that the government should be doing is providing clear information to allow everyone to make simple informed choices.

Do you really think people will listen more if it is every day in the news instead of every week?

Since the £2800 Ofgem prediction end of May there have been further 4 or 5 predictions every few weeks, widely commented in the news. If people don't react here, what makes you think they will react if you bring the information daily? There are just people who don't follow the news, and what can/should government do to provide clear information.

I have seen people complaining the news and government should stop scaremongering. SO people who are following the news, and just decide to ignore it.

If you look at page 2 of the letter it says

We launch new tariffs all the time, so prices shown might have changed by the time you get this. Go online for the most up to date information.

my mum got one before her tariff ended in July

I got an email on 27th July from EDF which said to check if i could protect from future price rises etc. I clicked through to the site and was quoted £320 p/m for a 2 year fix which came with £150 bill credit etc

There was a mention in the email of the offer running out on August 14th so didn't rush to go with the fixed price which is "only" £26 more than currently paying

Went on the EDF site yesterday to find the fixed price offer is now £503 p/m (currently paying £294 p/m)

Was confused due to the 14th August date mentioned only to find that was referring to the £150 bill credit offer. Very much regret not just jumping on the initial price offer

On the days it has not been number one on the news agenda it has been number two, or combined with number one in some way.

That information is already out there and readily accessible, at least as accurately as it can be with the ever changing circumstances. It is on here, Citizens Advice, government websites, BBC, many other news organisations, charities, consumer groups etc.

That's my plan, the fact that some providers are asking £100 - £150 per fuel as an exit fee tells me they are not sure of their tariffs and are scared that tariffs may because available next year cheaper than the fixed rate and they want to ensure they make it infeasible for me to leave.
Saying that I expect 65% increase in October, another increase in January and maybe another next April, but then expect it to reduce in July.

Latest predictions are 82%. In January todays figures will have more than doubled, and no major reduction in July to be seen.
