Is it possible to switch from Shell to a supplier like EDF in order to get a fix at some point

Apologies if this is a dumb question.
Is it possible to switch to a supplier that can offer fixes, using their variable rate. And then obtain fixes in the future as an existing customer?
I've tried EDF as they have nuclear generation but they aren't taking on new customers.
Am I stuck with Shell until the conflict is over?

I was able to switch to Octopus early last month but only by email .They answered quickly and was able to ditch EDF and Eon .0

probably not currently using their SVT (although EDF & Octopus have been known to). Neither of those have particularly brilliant fixes anyway.0

EDF and Octopus were the two suppliers who would take on new customers, if they called in. This seems to have become harder and harder, and requires repeated calls until you get lucky. Octopus seems to be "easier" now, long time since I have seen somebody accepted by EDF.
Also there is at least with EDF no guarantee that they will offer you a fixed tariff.0 -
thanks.
Octopus are interesting. I'd be up for the tech they are developing that would let me pay less to put the dishwasher on at night instead of the day
They also generate too - but through a separate investment company?
The ORIT share price seems reasonable compared to some renewable generators.0 -
Octopus usually have poor rates on standard Fixes but they have some decent tariffs if you have smart meters and are happy to look at TOU (time of use). The best rates on these disappeared mid July but the rates on offer now are looking more interesting with today's price announcement. Octopus have historically honoured the prices you are offered for 12 months after you switch. Some dislike that there is no absolute guarantee and have missed out because of it).
Agile for electricity, a price for each 30 minutes of the day, max of 55p/kWh. Prices are announced around 4pm on previous day.
Tracker for gas (Google Octopus Tracker, it's hard to find links from the main site) a rate is set each day, announced around 4pm previous day, max of 17p/kWh.Barnsley, South Yorkshire
