I've had a look at the justfortheloveofit website - not sure I quite understand. You sign up, put in huge list of things you can do - from baking to yoga - tick the ones that fit you and then what? Do you get emails from people in your area who would like you to bake them a cake? Do you fancy a hand with your garden and email somebody local with gardener on their list and say please come and help me dig my borders? The website doesn't have any 'etiquette' advise. Has anyone had any contact via this website - or made contact. I'd love to know what happened and how.0

It sounds like you have the right idea ubamother. I expect that if you wanted a service then a polite email asking if they would be willing to help you would be OK.0

I am a member of the very useful Freeconomy Community in London and they've just had a relaunch of their website, and its absolutely fantastic!
It's a website where if you need a job done, or want to learn a certain skill, or need to borrow a tool, you can and its completely for free! Someone just comes around, does some work for free, shows you how to do whatever he / she has done and leaves (often after dinner though!)
I know it sounds too good to be true, but it isn't! I've had a guy come around to fix my bike, I've had a lovely bookkeeper called Sarah help me with my annual accounts and had a group of people come help on my allotment this year alone!
The website address is justfortheloveofit.org
I really cannot recommend it highly enough, and I've met some of my best friends through it now. We are thinking of setting up a local group to meet once a month too for a social.0 -
Hi Greensaver,
I've added your post to the existing thread on Freeconomy. If you have an interest in the website (which I'm pretty sure that you do) I'm afraid you can't use the MSE forums to promote your site as these forums are set up to be completely free from advertising.

Hi Pink-wing
Thats fine and completely understandable - I have no interest in the site other than I love it and my mates friend set it up in Bristol and I find it very inspirational.
I wouldn't agree thats its advertising to be honest though. I've posted a link to your forum on their forum a while back and they didn't mind - this is free afterall as is theres, no one makes money out of either as far as I am aware. Saying cycling is good for you isn't advertising cycling!
But its fine where it is, I am only trying to let people know about somethibng I think may be of great use to them!0 -
Hi Greensaver,
Please accept my appologies if I was wrong. I 'spoke' by e-mail to the owner of the website in December 2007 and mentioned MSE. The following day you joined MSE to post about the website and eight of your eleven posts, to date, do actually promote the website.
Saying that if you are unconnected to it, then there's nothing to stop you posting about it.

No apologies needed, moderators have an essential function. I do post about it every now and again, had no idea I had so many times though!
I am unconnected but kinda know the man who started it, so maybe that makes me slightly connected. I promise to post about all other projects I love from now on and never about the freeconomy again! - is that OK?
Best wishes and many thanks0 -
GREENSAVER
I think its just fine to keep posting about this - as its THE ultimate moneysaving after all to live without money. Many of us have some sort of connection with this...including me....but its just NOT a "commercial" venture....I think thats very clear...
I get very fed-up myself with the number of people who only have money as their basic motivation....but Freeconomy doesnt...you dont.....(I guess the "confusion" arose because many many people who use MSE are of the "moneygrabbing" variety unfortunately - rather than the "moneysaving variety"...;.but, hey, thats life...and its understandable that it may be difficult sometimes to tell which ones of us are in the "moneysaving" variety...and abhor the "moneygrabbing" ethos...
I quite see that you have only posted a very low number of posts...and the number of posts you have made about Freeconomy are tiny...you just happen to be particularly interested in it...no harm in that....:D0 -
So how does it work? Can I ask someone for help with something or do I have to do something first? Not sure what I can offer? Do I even need to offer something.
I do like the sound of it.0 -
just registered , you just put down any skills you have and are willing to share for free
need need to do anything first , if you want help then just search for someone for those skills in your areaEx forum ambassador
