Ovo prices

I'm with Ovo, just for gas. When I log in , it says I'm on a rolling variable plan, with no end date.

Price per unit is 6.93p. Standing charge 25.92p.
Account is around £250 in credit, and they say, will be £490 in credit by the end of the current 12 month billing cycle.

Direct debit is set at £83 per month. It says I can reduce this if I want , but not to lower than £43.

I'll probably leave it as is, and see what it looks like after the winter

Why is the price per unit so low, if it's variable? It seems way lower than the figures I see mentioned on here.

There doesn't seem to be any offer of a fix that I can find on the site.

A rolling variable plan typically automatically renews every 30 days, so I would expect them to send a change notification shortly saying that prices are going to increase on that plan.

It's roughly the level of the current price cap. It will rise sharply (the unit rate will probably double) in October, with further increases likely in January and April.

Seems to be called Simpler energy.

Yes, kind of assumed that it's going to double or treble. But was just puzzled by the fact that if it's not on a fix, they could increase it whenever they like. Yet they haven't changed it.
  • That’s the current capped rate for gas. I’m now on a fixed tariff but was paying 6.935p back in June (I’m in the old EMEB region).

If it's the SVT it appears to be it will go up on 1st Oct when the new price cap starts.

    Thank you.

Yes, that's it. I've just looked at a bill for last Nov, and the unit price seemed to be 3.79p. Mystery solved!
