Getting Quotes to Help Prioritise Work
Newbie here! I want to ask what maybe a stupid question so please bear with me.
I bought my own home 7 years ago, for various reasons I haven’t done anything major with it since I bought it but I have a long list of stuff that I now need to do but I’m struggling what to prioritise, as so much needs to be paid for. I have some savings but I also will need to save up too.
this is my list, it’s probably not even exhaustive
Electric car
Solar panels
Loft boarding out
New electric heating all over
Carpets all over
New electric Kitchen
My bed new mattress
Spare bed loft bed
New dining room table & chair
Peridot ring setting
New water pump
New electric hot water boiler?
Fitted wardrobes my room
Redecorate lounge
Some of these things are more urgent than others, some will be more expensive than others, some will be better done in a set order. I don’t even know how to price some of them without asking people for quotes, and that seems rude to ask for a quote if I might not do that thing for the next 5 years. Other than having just restarting saving I’m not really sure where to start.
Not even really sure if my question belongs in DIY or budgeting either! 😂
Anyway, if you got this far any suggestions gratefully received!

Sorry, I should have structured my post better my real question is this part
‘I don’t even know how to price some of them without asking people for quotes, and that seems rude to ask for a quote if I might not do that thing for the next 5 years’
how do you budget/prioritise for something if you don’t know how much it will cost?
e.g. getting the loft boarded out, a set of stair ladders and a light put in.I’ve no idea how much that might cost.0 -
you can't really prioritise without knowing the cost, or at least an estimate of the cost.
you could draw up some plans of what you want , make some specifications and send to contractors to ask for ball park quotes?1 -
I'd prioritise your list in the order of, 'if I can never afford it, what can I live without doing?', then start at the bottom of the list. The mattress is probably the highest priority if your current one is bad, you spend a third of your life in bed.Make £2026 in 2026
