I purchased a reusable coffee cup for £16 from TXMaxx a couple of months ago but the lid has broken after minimal use. I no longer have the receipt.
I contacted the manufacturers Aladdin directly. They sent me to Burton Mccall who are the UK distributers.
Burton Mccall have said they can not help me as the contract of sale is with TK Maxx and I need to go direct to them, but they won't help me without a receipt.
Have I just got to accept It and throw it in the bin or is there another way to get a replacement/refund??

How did you pay?
You have the same rights with or without the receipt, ultimately it's up to a court to decide on the balance of probabilities whether you're telling the truth about where and when you bought it. But obviously easier if you at least had e.g. a card transaction for the purchase.0 -

Your statutory consumer rights lie against the retailer, not the manufacturer or distributor. Without a receipt it becomes difficult for you to prove who the retailer was.
If you bought by debit or credit card* it should appear on your statement. If you can show that to the retailer they might or ought to be able to tie it back through their point of sale system to the purchase of that particular mug by you. If they can do that you can push for a replacement or a refund. (Assuming the mug broke because of a fault and not because of mishandling)
If you paid by cash but have no receipt, you are a bit stuck.
*If you paid by debit ir credit card you could also try a chargeback.

At £16 it wouldn't be worth taking to a court, so without any proof of purchase, I think you're going to struggle to get a resolution. But as most store purchases are on debit or credit card then unless this was part of a multi purchase, you should have a relevant statementIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

I've always found TK Maxx are pretty fair if you phone Customer Services rather than just asking in a store. They normally give you a reference number and you can then return things to the store. That's if you still have the credit card statement.0
