I had this in my old house. The BG boiler service engineer was pretty useless, he wanted to empty and drain the system, install Hive before sorting this out.

I manually moved the spring on the valve to check if it was working. Once confirmed, then ordered replacement part and installed it myself. Cost me 30 ish I think.

Take pictures of all the wiring, and the labels - makes it very easy and ofc turn off the power before doing anything.

Is a 3 port valve not a diverter valve?
I've always believed that to be the case....

Combi boilers have this built in and its called a diverter valve, on a system with a cylinder its a 2 or 3 port valve.

The manufacturers and people who work in the industry would disagree with you.

It's certainly a 'valve that diverts', but I have never heard it called a 'diverter valve' unless it's an integral part of a combi.
That link describes it as a '3 port diverter', but it cannot be used to replace a combi diverter. Very ambiguous description, and i have never heard a plumber describe one as anything other than a '3 port valve'.

Ok thanks, if "people in the industry" disagree with me I must be wrong and not trying to help anyone reading this understand the term best used to describe the component. But with evidence like yours I have to admit I'm wrong, and must have misheard every plumber I've ever heard discuss these components during my 28 years retailing plumbing stuff and my 10 years renovating property.

It's not a diverter valve, that is only on a combi. It's probably a sticking 3 port valve, so trying moving it manually to free it off. It's not going to be fixed as part of a service! Nor will the RGI necessarily have the part on the van, so may need a second trip.
How much gas are you going to waste between now and December, heating your rads in the hottest summer for years?
No clue how much gas is or will be wasted. Was kinda the reason for the question.
Neither do we, but even with the rads off, you're heating and pumping hot water around the CH circuit wastefully. Did you hear about the October price increase?

Bet you never hear plumbers say the system is a S plan or Y plan. But that’s what they are!
The common terminology is 3 port  but in fact it a divertor valve.
A thankyou is payment enough .
