Hello,
I am the father of a 16 yr old boy,
for the past 10 yrs my sons mother has presented him to schools, health workers and the DWP as autistic, (I did a subject access request to the DWP!)
we have recently become aware that his mother has applied for and now receives PIP on his behalf and has made herself his appointee, we have rang the DWP to ask that these benefits stop as he doesn’t want or need PIP.
DWP have said they will only speak with the appointee ?
social services are completely uninterested in helping, does anyone know the correct process for sorting this out, DWP were not helpful at all.
thanks

Maybe this site can help
How Are Appointees Regulated? | Appointeeship | FAQs | The Money Carer Foundation
Also if you inform her that you are going to report her for benefit fraud, she will probably stop the PIP application pronto !0 -
If she has managed to persuade doctors etc he is autistic I would imagine the DWP would not be interested as they have doctors confirming diagnosis.
Are you more bothered about the DWP or doctors treating him for something he has not got and even m,educating him for that. I would be more concerned about the latter and would be all over social services as this is child abuse. I would also be at the doctors explaining the true position. The DWP would be the least of my concern.0 -
BriNylon said:If she has managed to persuade doctors etc he is autistic I would imagine the DWP would not be interested as they have doctors confirming diagnosis. That's not correct. A diagnosis isn't need for a PIP claim and DWP most certainly don't have any doctors that would confirm any such diagnosis. There's no treatment as such for Autism. Although saying your chld has a health condition when they don't is.. well, actually there are no words. I wouldn't wish any health condition on anyone. She must have lied through her teeth to get the PIP award. Use the link above to report benefit fraud. You will not be informed of any possible outcome from DWP.0

There are two possible sides to this: I have a friend whose child is very much on the autistic spectrum. Separated from the child's father, his view was that the child's unresponsiveness to phone calls was down to 'shyness'.
Given how hard it can be to get appropriate support from schools if a child has special needs, is it possible that the lad IS autistic but either denies it or doesn't recognise it? It's not uncommon for that to happen with teenagers, especially if they just want to fit in.
Where does the lad normally live? What has dad's involvement with school been?Signature removed for peace of mind5 -
My son son has resided between his parents 50/50 for throughout his secondly school years I have attended all school meetings.
the mothers representations to the DWP are of severe autism, incontinence mobility issues and partially blind.
she is a practicing barrister specialising in DWP claims.

We are not concerned about representations to doctors or health workers anymore as they have been made aware of the situation, sadly, social services have implied that he’s now old enough for them not to worry about him,
we would just like a way for his voice to be heard to stop this PIP claim,
he is presently with me full time and is not on speaking terms with his mother, she refuses to cancel the benefit.1 -
