Can I please ask what type of mop GDB2222? A square pad type?

A radiator roller that fits into the tin would be my prefered method.

Best equipment to use? If there are lots to do, I think you'd be hard pushed to beat a decent-sized painting pad on a pole, designed for floors. I haven't used them myself, so cannot give a personal review, but they seem the sensible option.
I just spend hours on my knees with a 3" brush
The water based stuff just goes on with a mop. It’s really quick and easy. A couple of coats should last years.

Umm, work backwards towards the door.

A mop? What kind of mop? You don't mean a mop mop, do you?

Osmo polyx oil gave me a fabulous finish.

I still miss that floor and it was a decade and 3 houses ago   :'(  :)

I'd now go with DRP's suggestion too...
You haven't started on it, have you, Yoof?

Good stuff but expensive, £90 + for 2.5 lts. OP has said carpets will be put on when finances allow.

Any type of mop, or a cloth. The point is that water based varnish just needs spreading on fairly thinly.

Clearly, it’s easier to do a neat job with a square or rectangular mop. When I last did this, I used something similar to this:

If you wrap the head in a plastic bag after the first coat, it may be suitable for a second coat.

If you don’t believe me, do a test run on some inconspicuous floor, like the under stairs cupboard.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Thank you for the mop link GDB2222.

The Osmo does look great but I can't afford it, I'm sailing close to the wind with my savings.

Unfortunately when I downsized I discarded a lot of useful things I thought I'd never need.

Just a quick thank you for the mop recommendation GBD2222.  I've ordered two from ebay and they were due yesterday, hopefully will be arriving on Monday.

I've just done the first coat of varnish on the small area in the bathroom, on my knees with a brush, and it's nearly killed me, I'm so glad I found a handyman to come and help next week.  Not sure where all the black hairs have come from either, will pick off before the second coat!   Luckily I have the chemical toilet until tomorrow, so won't need to walk on it for 24 hours. A friend has lent me a pole with a mop like bottom, you attach the sandpaper to it for the sanding, hopefully not as tiring!
