Another 'What's this Weed?' thread

It's about 18 inches tall, serrated leaves and the flowers are a small purple ball.  The stem is square and hairy. No scent

I'm going to have to pull it out but I'd like to know what it is before I do

Yes, not a weed in a correct garden setting, but a long way from Buenos Aries, which is what the 'bonariensis' bit means.

It gets more impressive than that too.

I bought one .... once ..

now self set all over the place but the seedlings are easily to pull up and happily transplant to more appropriate places in the garden

I just idly right-clicked on my own photo, above. One of the options was 'open image in google lens' (I use Chrome browser). When I did, it opened the image and showed images of purpletop vervain, Brazilian vervain and common vervain, which I think are all names for the same plant. So I could have used technology to answer my own question, but this was more interesting. Thanks, everyone.

It is interesting hearing people's experience of plants! I do lots of gardening with friends and we use an app (?plantnet) that identifies plants when  none of us can remember the name.
