sainsburys bank credit card - payments by debit card not working

heads up everyone. Been trying to pay off Sainsbury's bank credit card using debit card since about a week ago. Sainsburys bank payments (both app and website on computer) has thrown an error message at the finish of the process saying 'your payment wasn't successful'
Then it goes on to say 'your payment to your credit card didn't go through. Please check the card details you've entered and if they are correct you can use an alternative card or get in touch with your issuer about the problem. If you've recently made an online payment to your credit card, please call us on 08085 40 50 60'.
I know I'm entering the card details correctly (as I've tried 3 cards). Two of these cards I used soon afterwards to pay the Virgin credit card, and those payments were successful, so it's nothing to do with the debit cards I'm using.
edit: was able to pay using online banking. It doesn't show up on sainsburys bank app or website immediately. I'll keep checking tomorrow and if it still doesn't appear then the day after to see if it's gone through. TO begin with I just paid 10 quid by transfer. When it appears on app or website I pay larger amount.

Good news! The 10 quid payment is showing up in the sainsburys bank app under 'pending'. Just need to 'rinse and repeat' the online payment - this time for higher amount. As the online payment has already been setup (I used nationwide bank account - need the debit card and the card reader to setup first payment btw) subsequent payments don't take that long to do. I'll do two payments of around £1000 to pay the balance of around £20001

If i make a payment to halifax clarity card or santander zero card from my nationwide current account the available balance on both those cards are updated immediately. i.e. available balance goes up to reflect the payment just made. On sainsburys bank credit card this does not happen. i just see the pending transaction the next day (at least that's been my experience up to now).
i just made a £100 payment using nationwide online banking, sainsburys bank app says 'Available:£xxxx.xx this includes pending transactions'. however that figure hasn't been updated and the £100 isn't yet showing up in pending transactions yet! it's not immediate like halifax clarity or santander zero.0 -
Itt could be because it's a card payment. Not fully taken till they take it. Which could be a couple of days, till you see the actual debit on your bank account. Then it should reflect in your CC.
Which is why it is better to just make a faster payment to CC.Life in the slow lane0 -

debit card payments don't work on Sainsburys bank website or the app!!0 -
Ah. Thread title threw me out.
Just like any faster payment they can take up to 2 hours or even till next working day to show.
Unlike bank accounts, CC systems are not constantly updated, especially in app or online systems. Many update once a day, & not over the weekend.Life in the slow lane0 -

It's not that the payments by debit card aren't going through to Sainsburys bank promptly. It throws an error even before getting to that point.
Do try and read the content. Not just the title. Even if you just read the title '...payments by debit card not working', doesn't mean they are working but just slow to arrive. There could genuinely be a system fault - which looks like there is in this case.
For anyone interested, payments done via online banking are going through and are showing up on the available balance promptly. The one I did for £100 earlier today is showing up in pending and the available balance has been updated accordingly when I checked just now. So, it seems if you do an online banking payment on a weekday, available balance is updated on same day.0
