Coroners records from 1993 Ashbourne (Derby and South Derbyshire)

Last year I found an old and dear friend had died in 1993 (there were good reasons we never kept in touch) I have discovered it was an accidental death from a fractured skull and the place of death was a part of the A55 near Osmaston, Ashbourne. I know there was a coroner inquest report months after the death (died in March but the inquest held on the 2nd June both 1993) I am assuming a car crash was the cause of the injury but I really would like to know the circumstances around the death and I expect that to be in the inquest details. Can anyone give me guidance or advice on this? I know it is long ago and I hold little hope but it would haunt me for not even trying to find out.

Have you done an internet search to see if there's an old news report from the local paper.
It may even be worth asking the local paper if they ran an article on it and how you'd obtain a copy; details might be on their website.
To obtain the coroner's report, phone / email the coroner's office and ask them the process, it may be online and you'll have to pay for a copy of it.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1 -
Googling coroner's records, there appears to be different opinions as one source suggests the records need not be kept any longer than 15 years whereas another says a minimum of 25 years, which if either is correct, then the coroner may no longer have the report. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1

Looks like the Derbyshire Times archives are only online back to 2000

Really appreciate the help, I had a feeling the record of the inquest might not be kept but the idea of phoning the coroners office really hadn’t occurred to me! I will try the newspaper too. It is the strangest thing that I always had the idea they would have had a good life and love but many of the times it crossed my mind, they’d been dead. If you met them, you would know how tragic that is, the world would have been at their feet, 25yrs old when they died; I’ve seen the death certificate. Thanks again for the pointers it is kind of you to give this some time.1

Records are sealed for 75 years and only direct relatives or anyone with a valid interest should be allowed access to the coroner's notes.
