Work not been making contributions

I I just found out that my employer hasn’t made ANY pension payments since Feb to my pension company. I sacrifice salary at source each month but clearly this hasn’t been passed on nor has their contribution either!

What do I do?

  • Just so there is no confusion later down the line, that means you aren't contributing and won't see employee contributions or any pension tax relief.

Everything will be employer contributions, which don't get pension tax relief added.
  • The Pensions Regulator would have been in contact with your employer about any missed
payments and can fine them for non compliance.  How did you find out that they haven’t been send the monthly payments?   In my experience in payroll most pension providers insist on direct debits to collect payments.    Have you asked your payroll department what has happened?  If you are fobbed off definitely contact the Pensions Regulator.

    What do I do?
What has the employer said when you told them?
What have they said about putting it right?
Are other employees seeing the same?

  • I only received the letter today. I’m on school
holidays and can’t ask. I have emailed. To be clear ALL my payslips since it’s not been paid show my sacrifice taken off my gross pay. So it’s been taken off me…and I’m not sure where it’s gone!

Is this a letter from the pension provider/administrator?

    What exactly does it say?

You work for a school but it does not offer TPS/LGPS (perhaps because it is a private school)?

Who sent you the letter? The pension company or  your employer?

What’s the chances the company is in financial trouble?
  • I work for a school but I’m not teaching staff so not TPS. The letter was from the pension company saying my employer had made zero contributions since February

So you work for one of these dodgy Academy Trusts? that seem to be created for the enrichment of a group favoured individuals.  (Sorry getting a bit political).

it's annoying and probably alarming, but it is also completely sortable. You've emailed your employer and need to wait for a reply. There's no need to take any action (at least not yet!), nor is there anything to worry about in terms of your contributions being 'lost'.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

You need to speak to the employer ASAP and ideally speak to a work colleague to see if it is happening to them.    If it's just you affected, then its likely a clerical issue that will get resolved.  If its happening to other employees, then there is the risk of money problems with the employer.
