BA miles credit card - waste of space!

I was browsing the BA website for flights and saw the advert for take out their credit card and get 1000 BA miles introductory offer. Not bad I thought, go for it. Now I have the card I find BA miles and not the remotely the same as normal miles. On the airmiles scheme BA London to Paris is 150 miles, 300 miles round trip. Looking on google maps it measures to be about 200 miles so 150 is the right ball park. On BA miles you need 9000 BA miles (and 100k for Austriala). The deal is Pointless! The airmiles card off is better, 500 airmiles to start with. At least that gets you somewhere (almost to Paris). The BA offer is only 30miles of real travel!

And building up miles is no better, 1mile/£1 compared with the airmiles card of 1mile/£10, but as 9000 BA miles = 300 airmiles the BA card is actually 1/3 the rate.

My advice is don't waste your time filling in the form.

The main benefit IMHO is the 241 voucher you receive after a certain spend (10K in a year, on the platinum).
Couple this with Tesco points, exchanged for BA Miles (say 10K points = 24K miles / per quarter)
In theory, by the year end you'd have roughly enough, for 2 to fly to Hawaii in club!!!
Availability is obviously another thing, but a random date in Apr has this ticketing cheapest at 17K. Hardlyto be sniffed at.
All depends whether you plan to use the card enough.
  • I have saved up BA miles for many years so as to book free flights on my retirement. I had over 287,000 BA Miles on 1st November 2007 and decided to use 100,000 to book flights to Kenya, when I got my A/C statement in last December, I noticed that I had 200,000 miles deducted from my A/C. I have sent numerous emails and 2 letters to Sarah Keys and her assistant requesting that they investigate where my missing 100,000 BA miles went and got an email telling me that my letters had not arrived!!! I then emailed the BA Executive club last week requesting the postal address of Willy Walsh and surprise surprise got an email on behalf of Srah Keys thanking me for my letter (not received by her!!) and telling me that they are unable to check my A/C history back further than 3 years!!!

Since I am unable to produce any evidence of my previous total due to keeping it on my BA Executive A/C it looks like I have lost 100,000 BA miles. I would therefore like to warn everyone to make sure that you print off periodic statements if you do not want to end up like myself. I am so very annoyed with the appalling service I have experienced over the past 6 months, all in vain!
