Grant of Letters of Administration - Timeline Expectation

Options
Hi, my Dad died in early March. In his Will he had named Simplify Wills (now part of Coop) as his Executors. When my brother and I (only beneficiaries) called the Coop they offered to renounce their Executorship which we duly accepted given that my Dad had been charged a small fortune for their services when my Mum died some years ago.

We thus had to apply to Probate Services for Letters of Admin (rather than Probate) via the PA1P postal form, which we did in early May - we decided to do it ourselves. We have been chasing progress since the 8 week point (as is allowed) only to be told this week (approx 12 weeks) that the application is being sent to a specialist team in Brighton and the current estimate for completion and the Grant of L of A is Feb 23. Little explanation of why.

My Dad's Will could not be simpler, no IHT and just his two sons as beneficiaries of a modest house and a small amount of savings.

Has anyone else come across this before? Is the timeline usual? Has anyone heard of any specialist team in Brighton dealing with Letters of Administration? Any advice that could help expedite is most welcome.

We very much wish we'd taken the hit of the Executor's fees now and just let things take their course, but can't go back of course.

Thanks, Ed
