Need help setting up utilities at new flat

Hi all,
I'm currently in the process of moving into a new flat after graduating from university and I'm a bit stuck on how best to go about setting up my bills.

Last year I was with together energy at my previous flat, but unfortunately they went bust and I was moved to a Welcome Together energy tariff (a variable tariff) with British gas. The flat I'm moving to is registered with Eon Next, who have offered to put me on a Next Flex tariff (also a variable tariff).

British Gas are unable to offer me a fixed tariff at the new flat, but EoN are offering me a Next1Yearv18 dual fixed tariff of approximately £191 per month or £2294 per annum (electric - standing charge 54p, units 69p per Kwh ; gas - standing charge 32p, units 17.5p per kwh) .

I'm unsure if going with a variable tariff is a good idea, due to the price cap being about to increase. But I'm also unsure if Eon's fixed tariff is a good deal.

Any advice?

That fix looks expensive, 69p for electricity is very high.

You will need to register with Eon at first as they are already the supplier for the new property. I'd go with the variable Flex tariff for now.

Eon have no clue how much energy you will use so looking at DD in £s doesn't really mean anything, you could use way less or way more than they are guessing you will.

If you can find another supplier who is taking on new customers (not many are at the moment) look at the unit prices they are charging rather than any value in £

Check if they will offer you also Eon Next Online V18. That one is much cheaper and recommended by Martin.

Not anymore they don't. There's no referral fees in it for them and the market competition is dead.
  • Thanks, reckon I'll just stick with British gas on that Welcome Together variable tariff then, doesn't seem like there's much else I can do! Eon Next Online V18 isn't available to me unfortunately, so I guess we'll see what the price cap rise brings

Will British Gas let you transfer this to your new property? Most wont. As stated above - register with Eon and stick with the Variable tariff for now.
