DDs vs STOs

I don't think any of us would mind an increase if it seemed reasonable. But massive increase in standing charges (for what??) and many companies pushing your to be in significant credit in the autumn. When I was with Bulb they starting to ramp up my DDs to ludicrous amounts insisting that all summer I had to be in sufficient credit to cover 3 months of winter usage (not my DDs). When they tried to increase it yet again a month after getting them to agree just a small increase that's when I decided to leave them. My experience with Scottish Power wasn't dissimilar. They notified me of a ridiculous increase that turned out to be based on the one very cold month when we happened to be having our roof replaced (see heat was going straight out!). They insisted this 1 single month's use is what we would be using each and every month - like as if we would have the heating on in July!!!
So this is why I'm suggesting that all energy companies should have a maximum DD limit that the customer can set. I'm lucky that Eon (current supplier) doesn't seem to care about the debt on my account and haven't been sending me all sorts of letters about it. It's been my custom to have a relatively low, and affordable monthly payment and when necessary whack across a bigger payment when it's convenient to me as that's a better use of my money. Money in my account earns me a tiddly amount of interest but I prefer that to giving it to others to profit from.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Octopus don’t give discount, my dad asked BG and they said no.
There was one other, but can’t remember which one it was.

Contact us and we can cancel your Direct Debit or set up a different way for you to pay. But remember, you'll lose your Direct Debit discount and have to pay a higher rate.2
