Ordered some pine skirting and architrave online, knots are fine but I didn't expect dead knots or the large natural defect in the 3rd photo. The splitting is presumably where the wood has been dried to quickly, I'd expect the wood to be graded so finished pieces don't end up with such defects.

The site says they use 5th grade timber which a quick Google suggests is a common grade for skirting and architrave.

I just wondered if the below defects were acceptable or whether I'm justified in complaining?

There are some situations that really suit mdf and this is one of them.  Just sayin' 😬

I wouldn't accept that level of defect.

It depends what their website (/conditions of sale) said about timber being a natural material and subject to knots, splitting, warping, and general variability.

If you paid top £££ for material with a guaranteed quality level then perhaps, if that level has not been met.

    Have to agree!
That is awful but pretty standard of timber today, it’s quite shocking that someone thought that was ok to send out.

Maybe, just once, someone will call me 'Sir' without adding, 'You're making a scene.'

Site says they use the finest materials...

Price is very subjective, I didn't specifically seek out the cheapest price possible, looked at a handful of sites and just picked one that seem to tick the relevant boxes.

Will ping an email over to them and post back to update on what they say.
