PCN

Hi All,
A couple of weeks ago we were on holiday in Marazion, Cornwall and one evening decided to park in the short stay car park to walk our dogs along the front. We eventually found the parking meters and I purchased a ticket for the 1 hour stay paying the due fee of £1.50.
A few days after returning home, we received a PCN for non-payment of fee.
After several emails between us and Initial Parking, the company which oversees parking for the St. Albyn's Estate, they finally say that they have no record of our vehicle registration. As I was the one who purchased the ticket, I was not aware that entering our vehicle registration was necessary and the machine produced me a ticket for the fee paid. If the machine required a registration to be entered, why did it not discontinue the process until I had entered the required registration, instead of producing the ticket?
Has anyone experience of this situation and how did you deal with it?
Any help would be much appreciated as we feel having paid for the time used, we object to being fined £100 or even the £60 discounted early payment.

Thank you in advance for any advice offered.

If you were deemed to have appealed and they rejected it, have you got a POPLA code?

She probably watched that misleading and embarrassingly bad appearance by Martin Lewis on a morning TV show about private parking tickets.
