UPS Custom charges not billed at time of importation

What's "shocking" or "theft" about "importers having to pay duty on the stuff they import"? That's the way it's been for centuries. I can understand perhaps surprise if you didn't realise something was being sent from abroad, or if you've got used to dealing with the EU and forgotten that the UK has left, but are people really baffled at the concept of customs duties? What do they think duty-free shops are, or the customs lanes when they enter countries?0

they Ask you to wait while there expert delivery guy works out the delivery cost. Why not give a warning, here.
I also buy car parts from AUTODOC a German company. Should I be expecting an import bill to appear, any time soon.
they have sites for different languages, how difficult is it to give a clear warning. I see this as theft.
then theirs tnt. Often my daughter buys from Hong Kong. I get a card from the post office. It’s up to me whether I pay the extra. I believe they send the parcel back. And refunds given.
it is a shock and no way can you back out of the transaction.
mecatechnic do not care, they have your money.
tnt do not care because they pay your import duty and charge you what they want for handling+ duty.
this is white collar stealing.
This is totally wrong. Because there was no indication of import duty will be added.

I will pay the extra £1000.
but for those that like to be an pain. I still have a Porsche 911e 1971.
And yes, if you also imported from AUTODOC you will probably also get an import tax bill relating to that.0 -
@halla it might have been better to start a new thread.
Which website did you buy from?
Only one I can see is this https://metechnics.be/ - but it doesn't seem to offer any online ordering so I'm not sure. If it was this site then it's clearly not based in the UK so you should have been aware that importing would be subject to charges.0 -
A company abroad cannot know the import rules for all countries they supply to.
It is up to the importer to check their own customs /import duty.2 -

Metechnics | Acceuil
That doesn't seem to have online ordering either.
And doesn't seem the sort of company that provides car parts.

I guess we'll have to wait for @halla to come back.
i think you are correct about this site: https://www.mecatechnic.com/en-GB/CGV.asp as they do supply car parts... this is on their T&C's....I've bolded the relevant part.Article 12 - Delivery conditions
Delivery means the transfer to the consumer of physical possession or control of the good. It is only made after confirmation of payment by the banking organization of our company.
Places of delivery:
The customer has the choice between a delivery in “Point Relais” ® Mondial Relay and post office (for metropolitan France, Belgium, Germany, Spain and Luxembourg) or to the delivery address indicated when ordering (the Customer is asked to verify the accuracy of the address provided).
Any package returned to our company because of an incorrect or incomplete delivery address will be reshipped at the customer's expense. The customer can, at his request, obtain the sending of an invoice to the billing address and not to the delivery address, by validating the option provided for this purpose on the order form.
Any shipment outside the European Economic Area may generate additional and variable customs costs. Our company is in no way responsible for these costs which will be borne by the customer.0 -

OP
Didn't you expect any changes when we left the EU?
Import charges for goods purchased in the EU was discussed in the media at the time.
And on this website:
Beware extra charges on online orders from the EU - MSE (moneysavingexpert.com)

Not reading things that are important - and that importance indicated by an orange triangle with an orange exclamation point inside it.
I'm sure halla will get hit with a customs charge from the other company.
