Travel insurance start date

All the must do’s state to purchase the travel insurance at the same time. All good, but the policy asks for your trip start date. Or policy start date. Do you put the date of booking the policy or your trip date? My point being you have the insurance for your trip and not before the date, it just seems odd to me

The trip start date is when you travel - you'll be covered for cancellation etc before then.0

It depends on whether you are looking to purchase an multi-trip policy (also known as an annual policy), or a single trip policy (to cover the one return holiday).
If it is the former; you should put the start date as the day you want to be covered for cancellation of your holiday. If that is immediately; then it is "today".
If it is the later (a single trip); you enter the dates of travel; and as soon as you purchase the policy, the cancellation cover starts immediately.1
