Bag for Life

I am surprised that ambulance chasing lawyers have not latched on to fraud affecting millions of shoppers who bought "bag for life" bags. I have bags from Sainsburys and Waitrose and, when the bags fail, they will not now replace them.

So you've reached the life of the bag. Judging by your post I guess you expected it to be your lifetime.miser_3 said:I am surprised that ambulance chasing lawyers have not latched on to fraud affecting millions of shoppers who bought "bag for life" bags. I cant see what the layers have to chase, how much did the bags cost?2 -
I believe that this is what was originally stated by the supermarkets..... I guess you expected it to be you're lifetime.3 -
Are you sure Sainsbury's no longer replace for free?
This suggests they do Bags of help for good causes – and the planet – Sainsbury's (sainsburys.co.uk)
Waitrose will refund the 10p charged if you return the bag for life
Carrier Bags | Waitrose & Partners
"My current Bag for Life is damaged – can I exchange it for the 50p bag? Whilst we no longer provide a Bag for Life, if your 10p Bag for Life is damaged, we can refund you the cost of the 10p bag and offer you the opportunity to purchase a 50p bag; therefore, you would only pay the difference of 40p."
I think Waitrose are correct though, most people were only using the 10p bags once, removing them is a good thing.2 -
OP, that's why the lawyers aren't all over it, where's the money in chasing 10p?jon81uk said:Are you sure Sainsbury's no longer replace for free?

Do you have an evidence that this is now official policy?miser_3 said:I am surprised that ambulance chasing lawyers have not latched on to fraud affecting millions of shoppers who bought "bag for life" bags. I don't think the OP was being entirely serious...DanDare999 said:

For M&S, they used to state that when their bags for life were worn out, they would replace them. However, when I took some back, the policy seemed to have been abandoned and would no longer replace. I didn’t push it, given the small value which was involved.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j2

I'm pretty sure the OP was made tongue-in-cheek. They are correct though that the majority of places which did 'Bags for Life' with the promise to replace them if they broke, no longer do this.

The expectation of it being the OPs lifetime is perfectly reasonable since Sainsburys website says that is the case (and so do/did their bags)DanDare999 said:

"Instead, we offer reusable ‘bags for life’. These are made of 100 per cent recycled content and are entirely recyclable. So, when they do wear down, we replace them for free, while recycling the old bag to be used again."

Indeed, it would be completely meaningless to mean "the lifetime of the bag", as what would be the difference from any other carrier bag in that case?3
