HSBC Card not on any credit report

Hi,

I'm trying to consolidate two credit cards in to a unsecured loan, I'm having some difficulity in obtaining a loan and I think the major problem is that one of the cards doesn't appear on my reports with any of the three credit reference companies.

This is a HSBC mastercard which I opened ages and ages ago as part of their student package and I'm really keen that It should appear on my credit reports as I've never been late paying it, it has a good limit and it's not maxed out!

Does anyone know why the credit reference agencies would have no record of this and what I can do about it?

Many thanks,

  • The fact that something NOT showing on your credit files would not stop you getting a loan.
I think affordability and loan to salary ratio may be more relevant here.

Credit card accounts and current accounts opened prior to 1998 (the year of the DPA re-vamp) which have been run well were often not reported to the CRA's. The requirement/decision to supply positive, as well as negative, information to the CRA's came in with the new 'privacy statements' post 1998. The exception to this, of course, is if the bank has sent you notification of a variation to your T&C's and, by continuing to use the product, you have accepted these.

Are you sure you really want this other card reported (not that you have a choice BTW)? By that, I mean it would add further available credit into the credit scoring mix and may frighten off any loan provider. They would be concerned that you could go out and spend this additional available credit and then struggle to repay the loan
