Hi, I know energy companies are not keen to take on new customers at the moment but has anyone managed to get taken on by octopus or EDF on the SVR lately?
We are currently with British Gas, we have been stuck with them as we have been waiting for a switched meter issue to be resolved which it finally has but our account is a total mess, neither of our SMET2 are operating in smart mode but it’s impossible to get in touch with them to provide meter readings, it’s not possible to provide them online due to us having smart meters so its catch22! They have reduced our DD so it now does not cover our consumption but as they don’t have up to date readings, the amount can’t be altered 😡

The impression I get from posts here is that it gets harder and harder to switch to EDF or Octopus.
It will not help you if the last one was successful yesterday, just call them and give it a try. And if it does not work the first time just try again.1 -
Octopus tend to be more helpful if you have a good reason to switch, if they can save you money. Could always say you are getting an EV next year and BG don't do good TOU tariffs

Technically, that would be fraud: the ts and cs specify ownership of an EV or hybrid vehicle.Alnat1 said:Could always say you are getting an EV next year and BG don't do good TOU tariffs

I didn't say try to get on Go. I said you tell them you might need TOU tariffs in future, as I said - next year. Might be true anyway and if not it's more a little fib rather than FRAUD. Was a suggestion to help them get on Octopus SVT which is what the OP wants.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

I spoke to octopus, I explained how much of a mess BG have left my account in and she initiated the switch for me, very relieved to have got away and that the correct meter was actually swapped!1

They didn’t try and push the fixed tariff which I would not have wanted, I switched on to flexible octopus.0

Now you just have to hope that BG don't object to the transfers !!Helpmeoutofthismess said:I spoke to octopus, I explained how much of a mess BG have left my account in and she initiated the switch for me, very relieved to have got away and that the correct meter was actually swapped!0 -
Don’t they have to have a good reason to do that? We were £400 in credit when our last bill was produced on 24th July 2022 with the correct meter readings.brewerdave said:
