I can find suitable replacement direct from Dell but not for sale in Curry's.Keep_pedalling said:I find it hard to believe you can’t find a similar spec laptop from their current offerings even if it it not a Dell. Which model did you buy?
Was a Dell Inspiron 16 Plus. Needed a 16" 3K screen, suitable built graphics card, 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD for the use it was destined for. Was just the job when it worked.
More worryingly I have another two of these same models, not so high specced, at home, and NOT bought from Curry's and one of them the track pad is starting to cause issues after only 6 months. Aaaah.
This was a consumer purchase as opposed to soemthing for business use? I ask because of how you've expressed the bits I've highlighted in bold...2 -
Consumer purchase for my daughter to do her medical degree, need for 3D stuff she was involved with, including Roller Coaster Tycoon the last time I looked !!!Manxman_in_exile said:Ianm42 said:

There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -
Why? the requirements for the last laptop / docking hub I bought had to be that it supported at least 2 4k monitors - but that was purely because a) I like lots of desktop space and b) one of my hobbies uses multiple high res monitors. Just because its high spec doesnt mean its for business. In fact my personal machine setup is higher spec than the setup I use for work (which they supplied)Manxman_in_exile said:Ianm42 said:

You have three of these Dell laptops. One had a trackpad problem and was deemed irreparable. Another has the same trackpad issue after just six months of use. And you want to replace this laptop with the same Dell laptop?!2

Yes that would be ideal. But the Currys repaired/replaced model is no longer sold by Currys, which is why I assume they gave me an e-gift card to buy something else from Currys.WhiskersTheWonderCat said:You have three of these Dell laptops. I think people are curious why you buy the same model of laptop when you have two with the same problem already.4

I know I wouldn't want to.sheramber said:I think people are curious why you buy the same model of laptop when you have two with the same problem already.
It's like you're setting yourself up for failure (and it might be why they are no longer stocked).
I'd buy the best available laptop for the voucher on offer rather than risk a reduction for a cash refund.
If they dropped you down a few hundred pounds how would you feel? (And yes they can do it)
What if you added to the voucher and say put in another £100 - would that give you an even better laptop? If there's nothing at the exact price point that satisfies you, it could be better value to move up the range and add in some of your own funds, rather than fighting for a cash refund, getting dropped a few hundred and then having to put in more to get the same spec as you already have from somewhere else (and then it failing too in a few months).0 -
There's some pretty high spec laptops on the Currys website to choose from. And plenty with the specs you are after, especially if you go up to a 17 inch display. But if you demand a cash refund, they will likely reduce the amount by a fair bit. Heck, I wouldn't even want to draw their attention to the fact that you got a full £1350 refund (albeit in credit) for an item you used for a year and a half. And if you end up with a lesser cash refund, you probably wouldn't be able to afford a laptop with the specs you are after.0

Because I know the later ones 2022 models do not suffer this issue. I work/repair on laptops for my company (as part of IT support), but generally won't touch repairs if still under manufacturers/shop one (or more) year warranty. The 2022 models at work, so far have had no issues. Normally I would have no issue getting spare parts for Dell (and other laptops), but I too cannot get Dell spare parts for newer laptops.sheramber said:I think people are curious why you buy the same model of laptop when you have two with the same problem already.0
