Old iPad, what to do with it?

Original iPad Air model (2013).  Grey screen, so knackered really, cost to repair would be £80-ish, and it’s not worth more than that now as it can’t be updated beyond iOS 12 (I think), so literally of no use any more, as it would run far too slowly.  But if it was resurrected, it still has all my info on it, so what can I actually do with it?  Hide it in the loft?  Smash it to bits with a sledgehammer?  Ideas gratefully received.

If there's something you want to buy there, you could recycle it at your local Currys and get a £5 voucher:
    It’s cash for trash month!

You can take it to any Apple store and they will recycle it responsibly.

If you buy another iPad, Apple are quite generous with their trade-in discounts

If it responds when connected to a pc or Mac with usb, you can probably delete everything with iTunes.

If it doesn’t respond, I would smash it. A few pounds trade in isn’t worth the risk.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
  • Grey screen as in broken screen or just monochrome?

If it's the latter and you fancy a fun project, perhaps you could do something like https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/5-cool-ipad-upgrading/

You really don't need to smash it. If you can't see it to do a Factory Restore, you can just remove and wipe or destroy the SSD.

It’s an iPad, and all the storage is soldered in.

All I will say is if your iPad doesn't turn on & you're worried about recycling it somewhere or chucking it in a bin as far as your data is concerned in case someone somehow has the magic key to get in to it when it wouldn't work for you

Then be careful where exactly you use a cordless drill to drill through the case, in to the iPad & through it.

Because if you hit what must be the battery then boy does that thing start to heat up & smoke!

Then you need to leave it out in the rain overnight before you can stick it safely in the bin.

Though I wouldn't know anything about this. :)
