Help needed

Good afternoon.

I have recently moved house and I had British gas, and so energy as my providers at my old address.

I moved house and both British gas and so energy said I couldn't take them with me, so I've been put on the scottish power, variable tariff for both gas and electric.

No companies will offer me a fixed rate as a "new customer"

Anyone have any help or advice, if you've had the same or similar treatment?

Thanks in advance

Energy companies supply the property not the person so when we move we have to automatically become a customer of the energy company who are supplying the new house. It's just how the system works.

After you have given the meter readings and your details to the new property's supplier you are free to start a switch to a company of your choice. The problem at the moment is that very few companies are taking on new customers.

You might be able to switch to EDF, Octopus or Green Energy UK but you will probably need to ring them and ask.

There is no guarantee that you will be offered a "good" fixed tariff with any of the above suppliers, even if you switch to them.

Unfortunately the time for reasonable fixed tariffs has passed. Green Energy UK was the last one that withdrew their fixed tariff last week.

I don't really see what your question is, or what you need help with.
    • Scottish Power are your supplier. Their SVT is much the same as every other supplier's SVT.
    • Most supplier's fixed rates are higher than the current SVT, and also higher than the anticiapted October cap.
    • According to MSE's current version of this article, there is a switch available to Utility Warehouse but to get the best rates you'll need to take other utiulities with them too.
    Is that any help?

Is the UW fix still available? I am only offered SVT now when I get a quote.

I'm being offered "Green Fixed 33" on UW's website if I say I'll take two other services.
By bundling energy with two other services, you've unlocked 100% renewable electricity and are eligible for our Fixed tariff.
Green Fixed 33 is the tariff MSE are suggesting in the article. Details of my offer:
    • Electricity is 47.674p/kWh plus 33.481p/day
    • Gas is 10.955p/kWh plus 17.122p/day.

You are correct. I somehow did not see the "switch symbol" for the fixed tariff.
