Floght cancelled, reroute with another carrier?

BA cancelled our flights from Gatwick to Jamaica in November and have withdrawn the route. I want them to find and reroute us on the most suitable option for us and I have identified a suitable alternative. Virgin flights on the same dates albeit from Heathrow. There are no BA flights on the same day and I have a hotel booked and which is now fully booked for dates around then. I I’ve already wasted so much time trying to get through to them on their phone line and have been cut off several times after hours of waiting.
I have not received a rerouting offer which I believe they have a legal duty to make.
am I right?

Yes, they're obliged to offer a choice between re-routing and refund - worth reading the CAA guidance about this, and in particular chapter 4:
